for those who don't follow Argentina football, this is a big game...
estudiantes won the league last season by beating Boca (who were 2nd) in the last game of the season...

veron shined big time in that game and has been a gem in the midfield since returning to argentina last year...

this year, however, boca have been able to get their legend and idol, Juan Roman Riquleme, on loan from Villareal...
this game was massive as it put 2 of argentina's greatest midfielders against each other..

Quite a week of football...and weekend!

Irrespective of which team won or lost, the week of matches were just scintillating. Even after the Milan Derby there was the German "derby" between a resurgent Bayern Munich and a Kloser-less Berthe Bremen and that game was equally hot -- ending in a 1-1 draw. After all is said and done, the winner was the fans(zealots too)!!

Screw the pretenders lets talk about the contenders!!

Some tasty fucking matches are in store for the next round of the champions league, with Chelsea drawing Valencia, Bayern Munich drawing AC Milan, Roma meeting Manchester United, and Liverpool running into Arsenal's conquerors PSV. The draw was missing some so called "big clubs" as they were knocked the fuck out by better teams filling me with schadenfreude... Anyways, at the beginning of the tourney I predicted that an English club would win the champions league, I recall Garvin's theory that this competition is cyclical, and that at times teams from one country would win the majority of times in a decade. In the 90's it was clearly Italian teams, and Spanish teams had a short stint with Madrid winning three titles in the space of 5 years and Valencia coming close in between. It's now time for the English clubs as Liverpool won it 2 years ago, Arsenal came agonizingly close to winning it last year and now three strong English teams are in the quarter- finals and the draw seems kind to them. On paper all three should advance, but as you all know in football anything could happen...just look Barca won their second European Cup/Champions league trophy since they were founded...amazing

I would like to take the opportunity to welcome carlos "samba magia" to the blog..

this weekend is a heated one as we have the two biggest derbies in the world..

on saturday, we have Barca v Madrid @ 3pm my time (4pm your time)..
this game needs no introduction but Barca will be looking for redemption after being slapped by Madrid in the first leg of this fixture this season...

on sunday morning, we have the HUGE milan derby...it will be the return of the once san siro king, r9...will he booed by Inter fans?? we will see...on one hand, we have Inter, who have dominated the serie A but had a dismal, disgusting champions league display and exit....on the other hand, we have milan, with a dismal serie A but a very promising champions league....after being back-hand slapped by Inter in the first leg, can AC Milan seek redemption?
